Day 14 in Ecuador

Dale pretending to work on the field.
Today turned out to be a very different day than expected. Yesterday evening, the plan was to climb Pichincha but the weather turned out to be not so great this morning, so the decision was made to postpone the trip. After we found this out, Dale and I planned to work on some financial projects the whole day. However, we got a phone call from Edgar asking if we could go to La Luz, which is where the new 5v5 soccer field is being built. Here we talked with Edgar and Samy, the president of Cumbre Alta, who told us that we need to watch over the workers and make sure they are doing a good job.

Our view from our "office"
We then were able to leave the field for the day because Edgar was watching over it (we will have to go to the field tomorrow). So Dale and I made our way back to la Casablanca where we were able to finish a quick project before lunch. After lunch, Dale and I were able to get a decent amount of work done on a Cost/Benefit analysis for Joseph. Our office was in the laundry room which had an incredible view of the mountain.

Around 4:00, Dale and I went to meet Justin Phillip's brother, Cody, who is working at a radio station in Quito for the summer. We then ate a quick dinner at Pollo Campero and made our way to Pan de Vida to visit. It was awesome to get to be back there again and see people we met last year. I was able to talk to one of the kid's who was on my soccer team from last year. He seemed happy to see me and was asking if I was coming to this year's soccer camp. It was cool to see his excitement and eagerness for the camp and desire for me to be there, even though I may be too busy too.

The whole evening hanging out with Pan de Vida was so cool and made me wish that I could duplicate myself so I could help them and Inca Link this summer. It just has been so cool to see the many connections that I have made throughout Ecuador and how God has just been working in wondrous ways here!

After our time at Pan de Vida, we went to Cumbre Alta practice. Practices with Cumbre Alta can be very frustrating at times because many of the players don't listen or even try that hard. Dale and I have gotten the opportunity to lead the second team which has been cool but also difficult since, like I said, many of them don't try. Nonetheless, I was still able to have good conversations with some players and practice some more Spanish.

And so ends another productive day. God continues to show himself in many different ways. Keep praying that my heart would belong to God and that I would surrender my will to him!

Dios Bendiga,
Nich

  1. Just so amazed at all the connections you have built there over the last two summers! God is using all those relationships for his purposes. :)
